15) Collaborative Strategies to Help a Resident-Owned Community Thrive
A Talk by Bill Barberg and Paul Bradley
About this Talk
This seminar discusses the work of ROC USA, an organization seeking to make resident-owned communities more accessible. In particular, it considers the case of Park Plaza Cooperative, in Fridley Minnesota, a community of manufactured houses that became resident-owned in 2011. The presenters discuss the advantages of resident-owned communities, especially for people living in manufactured homes or in low-income situations, as well as some of the financial and logistical challenges facing potential resident-owned communities. Finally, they consider the ways in which these barriers can be overcome, and discuss some of the services that ROC offers to potential resident-owned communities, both pre- and post-purchase.
